Palfinger unveils its first electric access platform P 370 KS E at bauma 2019

Palfinger is launching its first-ever electrically-operated access platform, the P 370 KS E. This is combined with a diesel-powered truck engine, with the platform able to switch to the truck engine for power should its battery run low.
One of the key benefits of the electrically-powered operation is that it is much quieter than diesel, producing just 62dB. This makes it ideal for situations where noise pollution or air pollution must be limited, in areas such as city centres, said Palfinger.
The platform has an intelligent energy management system to control the interaction of components including the electric motor with hydraulic pump and the integrated battery charging system. Its battery allows 24 cycles, each seven minutes long. Palfinger has developed a quick-charging system so that the battery can be re-charged between operations if heavy use is required.
Electrification of cranes is further behind however, said Palfinger. Although the manufacturer has created a concept electric crane, this is not yet ready for the market. The goal is to have a model ready for 2020, although there is still a lot of development work to do.
