ATC raises safety levels

ATC (Aldridge Traffic Controllers), the appointed international distributor for the SCATS traffic management system, has expanded the capabilities of the ATSC4 traffic signal controller to provide advanced warnings to drivers at railway intersections.

Jim Giffin, marketing manager: “This new controller has been tested to international safety standards and addresses the specific needs of unmanned crossings. It was the direct result of customer requests from the state of Victoria in Australia. The controller warns drivers by activating flashing signals situated 200m from a crossing when a train is approaching.

“We’ve also developed an uninterruptable power supply which is integrated into the traffic signal controller cabinet to provide a very cost-effective way of maintaining power for up to 4.5 hours in the event of a power cut. An additional feature of the new UPS is that it also supports all other services – CCTV, public address systems, Mesh wireless and so on – ensuring that traffic management centres can continue operations in times of emergency.
