Back to listingSécurité wins major radar contract
Sagem Sécurité has landed a major
deal with the French government for the supply, installation and maintenance of
600 Mesta fixed radar stations on France’s roads network, it was announced at
Intertraffic.
The programme is designed to
improve road safety in France
where more than 4,500 people are killed each year.
The contract was signed with the
French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea. The
installation programme will be carried out over four years.
Sagem Sécurité already has a total
of 2,600 fixed and mobile radar stations located on French roads, having sold
its first one in 2003.
The French government has taken an
increasingly forceful line on road safety since the early 2000s, with a string
of initiatives. After cracking down on drink driving, it turned its attention
to the problem of speeding drivers. The aim of the latest move is to create a
major change of attitude towards speeding.
“The French government has once
again expressed its confidence in Sagem Sécurité, as we continue to meet our
commitments and deliver solutions that are available and reliable,” said
Jean-Paul Jainsky, chairman and chief executive of Sagem Sécurité.
“The latest contract also clearly
confirms Sagem Sécurité’s leadership in the deployment of large-scale automated
road safety solutions.”
