Wavetronix is revolutionising the intersection with the new SmartSensor Matrix, the world’s first non-intrusive, multi-lane radar device designed specifically for intersection stop bar detection. SmartSensor Matrix was officially debuted at the ITS America Annual Meeting and is the winner of the 2010 Best of ITS Award for Best New Innovative Product.
The SmartSensor Matrix generates 16 separate high-resolution radar beams to create a 90-degree field of view with a 100-feet radius. This field of view is used to create a high-contrast, two-dimensional image of an approach that tracks vehicles, distinguishes lanes and accurately detects the presence of vehicles at the stop bar.
This detection method is accurate in all weather and lighting conditions, and is being marketed as Radar Vision.
“SmartSensor Matrix is the first new non-intrusive technology to be adopted at the intersection in more than 10 years,” says Mike Rose, Vice President of Sales at Wavetronix.
“Unlike other radar options, SmartSensor Matrix is designed specifically for the intersection,” Rose continues. “Using 16 radar beams solves the limitations of the misapplication of dual-beam doppler radar at the intersection. The traditional use of only two beams has made it difficult to distinguish between vehicles and determine which lanes they are in. With 16 radar beams, SmartSensor Matrix enables true lane discrimination.”
SmartSensor Matrix has already been proven by transportation agencies across the US. Recently, Fort Worth, Texas, submitted an initial order for 78 sensors to be installed as part of a project that will eventually include hundreds of intersections throughout the city.
ITS America attendees are invited to stop by the Wavetronix booth for a photo session that will place them into a Matrix movie-style poster.
