AMT 3D printer technology scales up for complete buildings

AMT is launching the AMT S-6044 3D printer for printing small architectural forms, building components or whole buildings in the field. The machine uses a portal format and can print 12m/minute in a line or 0.6m3 /hour using any standard mix of Portland cement, sand and plaster.

The machine can be operated by just two workers. When used outdoors for printing directly on-site, the construction must be protected from the weather. Otherwise components can be printed in a workshop and assembled on site. The technology has already been used to build a 360sq/m family house, a 48sq/m industrial building and a three-storey hotel. The technology does not aim to replace traditional methods, but allows for more complex geometric forms to be incorporated into construction, said Anastasia Maslova, legal consultant to AMT.
