Peri-RCS Max System-26Pump it up: Peri’s revamped hydraulic lifting system for its RCS MAX raises the bar for platform safety

Maximum worker safety is now assured with the upgraded RCS MAX hydraulic pump climbing system, according to formwork manufacturer Peri. The RCS (rail climbing system) MAX is a system for synchronising the lifting upwards and downwards of worker platforms on a structure’s external face. The system has been made safer by doing away with one large pump to lift many sections. The single pump has been replaced with a smaller unit for each platform.

The single pump system meant that there was always a small lag between one section being raised and the next section following – a leading edge. This resulted in momentarily different platform levels, a safety hazard for workers.

The new system entails a single portable pump on each platform. All the pumps can be synchronised to work at the same time, meaning no level difference between each platform unit. Each pump unit weighs only around 50kg so which makes it extremely portable, said Jurgen Gnida, a key projects manager for Peri.

Also, in the event of overloading, the hydraulics simply switch. Numerous visual aids such as signal lights in traffic light colours as well as a tablet also improve the visibility of the operating status. RCS MAX can already be used on the ground floor and early climbing is facilitated through anchoring in a hardened concrete section. In spite of the numerous features, it is a lightweight and compact product that is very easy to move and handle.
