Senn Maschinenbau takes danger out of traffic cone retrieval
First published in Intertraffic Innovation News - July 3, 2020
Manually deploying and collecting traffic cones in live traffic is one of the most dangerous and physically taxing jobs in highway maintenance.
The Coner, an innovative product from Senn Maschinenbau, Basel, Switzerland, is a truck-based automatic cone handling machine. It is designed to deploy traffic cones while driving forward and to collect them in reverse gear, thus keeping the vehicle in a safe lane at all times.
Cone handling becomes a one-man operation with the Coner, as the truck driver easily controls the process from the safety of the cab. Spacing between cones can be freely set between 5 – 100 metres. Taper and zigzag modes can be used for more complex traffic management situations, while about six cones per minute can be processed.
A standard flatbed truck can carry the system and cone storage capacity can vary between 100 – 400 cones, depending on available vehicles and customer needs.
Senn Maschinenbau is a third generation family-owned business specialising in the design and fabrication of complex machinery for various industrial sectors.
