Alcatel-Lucent launches provisioning app

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) will launch a new provisioning tool this quarter that will help DOT technicians quickly provision ethernet switches in the field with minimal IP experience. Advanced ITS applications need advanced networking capabilities, but networking expertise is in short supply. Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista Assistant will allow a technician to download switch configuration onto a mobile device such as a tablet or smart phone, plug it into the cabinet and automatically update a switch.

“We want to make it as easy as possible,” said Sara Brunswick, marketing director, ALE.

BCD Video, a systems integrator for government agencies and casinos, currently uses the app to deploy, update and maintain IP-enabled cameras. ALE will work with state DOTs and municipal transportation agencies to adapt the technology for ITS applications.

Available first as an Android app, OmniVista Assistant will soon be available on iOS.
