Applied Information showcases Knock-Down for safety

Applied Information (AI) is showcasing two new products, the Knock-Down Detection System and the Pedestrian Crossing Safety System (PCSS).

AI’s Knock-Down system detects when a traffic control device has been damaged – or knocked down – due to an accident, storm or vandalism and then will call for help. The traffic light knockdown sensor uses battery power and wireless Internet of Things technology to send alerts to transportation system managers when it is in an abnormal position.

Meanwhile, the pedestrian system uses bold, attention-grabbing visual alerts, along with audible warnings for both drivers and pedestrians. The PCSS works in tandem with the TravelSafely app, bringing an extra level of safety to road users, according to the company.

Both are part of AI’s Glance Smart City Supervisory System, a platform that gives cities access to their traffic infrastructure via remote monitoring and maintenance capabilities through connected devices.

During ITS America, AI is also hosting connected vehicle demonstration drives in the company’s fleet of Teslas to showcase the power of C-V2X and the capabilities of connected and autonomous vehicles. The Teslas are driving through a corridor of connected intersections where AI’s TravelSafely app acts as the on-board unit to receive SPaT messaging, Red-light Running alerts, Get Ready for Green alerts and other connected vehicle applications. A livestream of this is featured at the AI booth.
