Creating a safe and integrated Smart City should be as easy as playing with building blocks, according to McCain, a developer of intelligent traffic systems. McCain’s Smart City Vision is built on three blocks, explained Greg McKhann, McCain’s chief operating officer.

The first is a foundation of smart hardware, including low-voltage ATC cabinets that come connected vehicle-ready and variable message signs that consume only 10% of the power of traditional units.

The second building block is intelligent software. This can include McCain’s Transparity Traffic Management System that delivers high-resolution event data with information that makes traffic managers more productive. Also included is McCain’s OPTIPARK Parking Guidance System that provides motorists with parking guidance while offering parking facility operators a compelling low-cost alternative compared to single-space systems.

The third block brings it all together through integrated communities, featuring McCain’s transportation data exchange called Transparity TDX. This establishes a cloud-hosted capability to provide customised data services, critical to supporting connected and autonomous vehicle operations.

“With the high pace of traffic management innovation, communities should be able to embrace the future without reinventing their infrastructure after every new deployment,” said McKhan.

“Our products are designed to be adaptable, to build upon one another and to communicate seamlessly so cities don’t continually face massive upgrade costs.”
