OptaSense shows off TMS for the first time at ITSA

OptaSense is exhibiting its Traffic Monitoring Solution (TMS) for the first time at the Annual Meeting.

The company says the product converts roadside fibre-optic cable into a distributed traffic sensor capable of delivering timely and reliable traffic monitoring and incident detection information from the entire monitored road.

It uses distributed fibre-optic sensing (DFOS) technology to convert existing roadside optical-fibre cable into an array of intelligent sensors over long distances.

OptaSense says each roadside installation can cover up to 50 miles and it has a spatial output of 50m updated every second. The OptaSense TMS is already in use with road operators, including the North Dakota DoT, which uses it on the I-29 highway in Fargo.
