Solar Tech touts safety

Solar Tech hopes to make workzones safer for both motorists and workers through its new Smart Zone software. Built on a private network, Smart Zone safely gathers and analyses data from various sensors that can be used to manually or automatically trigger messages displayed on portable changeable message signs.

The messages display travel times, urge drivers to reduce speed or redirect vehicles to alternate routes—reducing accidents while keeping workers and motorists safe. According to Solar Tech, Smart Zone requires no third-party programming. Real-time data is collected from cameras, radar, traffic volume detectors and weather sensors and is sent wirelessly to a traffic management system.
