Belden has released the Hirschmann DRAGON PTN with HiProvision, an MPLS-based backbone switch family with provisioning software.

The unit reliably and efficiently transports mission-critical data and guarantees bandwidth in wide area networks through its support of MPLS-TP technology.

“The new DRAGON PTN with HiProvision enables customers to predict the behaviour of data as it goes across the network, guaranteeing bandwidth and ensuring uninterrupted communication,” said Vinod Rana, product manager at Belden.

Due to its deterministic capabilities and low cost, according to the manufacturer, MPLS-TP technology equips network architects for designing efficient and cost-effective networks and provides a migration path for legacy equipment. Architects can seamlessly integrate with legacy systems through multiple modular, redundant interface options and port types. A complete, integrated solution can be secured for provisioning and managing large networks from one vendor, making upgrades and implementation efficient and streamlined, according to the company.

The backbone device is also ideal for other harsh industrial environments, such as power transmission and distribution and oil and gas applications.
