Teledyne Lumenera is here to showcase its new Ls245R traffic camera, an innovation that provides an advanced solution for automated traffic image analysis, with integrated self-triggering vehicle detection (VDET) and automated licence plate recognition (ALPR). Built on the Teledyne Lumenera Ls Series Embedded Vision Platform, the Ls245R traffic camera is ideal for detecting vehicles on high-speed freeways and extracting licence plate information.

This new traffic camera can image, analyse and extract data all on its own without the need for a separate computer to process images. Image processing can run at all hours by automatically controlling a lens shuttle to flip between a day and night mode.

The Ls245R optimises network traffic by sending images that are already processed or by just sending metadata for each licence plate that the camera extracts. Even in the case of a network outage, images and data are safely stored on the device and queued up for delivery when a connection is established. The network connection for the Ls245R traffic camera also provides access to a Web UI to control device settings such as zoom, focus, iris and even external lighting options.

The Ls245R traffic camera is the result of a flexible FPGA design using the Ls Series Platform. Teledyne Lumenera says that capturing and processing images without the overhead of a traditional vision system is what makes the platform so versatile for different imaging applications.
