Throughout the ITS World Congress this week, Aisin is demonstrating its ILY-Ai, a prototype powered three-wheeled personal mobility scooter.

The ILY-Ai was announced in 2015 as a “Go out for adventure, open up the World and connect” concept for people of all ages.

The latest version incorporates image recognition to sense the movements of pedestrians for increased safety on sidewalks.

According to Aisin, ILY-Ai has the potential to diversify a market where powered, automated and more compact mobility vehicles are becoming primary modes of transport.

The three-wheel prototype is part of Aisin Group’s new connected car services, built on its Location Based Service Platform for car navigation and brake system technologies.

Services include risk prediction of changing environments and proactive informing via HUD (heads up display), as well as mapping of road conditions based on vehicle and location information.

Aisin can also provide logistics support – currently under pilot testing – to calculate optimal routes, detect delays and enable inter-company information sharing.

It also offers a sponsored demand-responsive ride-sharing service that contributes to health promotion for the elderly by offering transport and opportunities to get out of their residences.
