Ever since the introduction of a free-flow electronic toll collection (ETC) system in Hong Kong in 1998, Autotoll has proactively participated in a number of different smart city initiatives.

The company is at the ITS World Congress to demonstrate how it has now become an intelligent transport solution provider, specialising in smart mobility and with a proven track record.

Autotoll’s stand highlights its project capabilities, across the areas of free-flow tolling, real-time traffic information, real-time traffic monitoring, traffic control and surveillance systems, Internet of Things and telematics solutions.

For example, in 2014 Autotoll was awarded the contract by the HKSAR government for traffic control and surveillance system on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Marco Bridge.

Collaborating with Jiangsu Intellitrans for design and implementation, the system covers all Hong Kong boundary crossing facilities, the Hong Kong link road, and the southern connection of Tuen Mun-Chap Lap Kok Link.

It is also used for traffic coordination management during incidents and uses a state-of-the-art expert rule-based system for generation of adaptive traffic plans to cater for scenarios including multiple incidents and adverse weather conditions.

Autotoll’s pedigree in tolling is also impressive: the company has been providing ETC for Hong Kong since 1998 and in 2017 was awarded a contract for the trial installation and evaluation of its free-flow tolling system.

Last year, Autotoll was awarded a contract by the HKSAR government for a real-time traffic monitoring system, a core project in the Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint of upgrading the city’s ITS systems.
