ADV GEWI Organized Event Traffic RestrictionsMany challenges need to be overcome to realise the benefits of automated driving (AD). One of the biggest is to ensure that changes in road conditions due to construction, weather or events are properly recognised by the vehicle, to ensure the proper automated driving response.

Gewi will be at the ITS World Congress Singapore to demonstrate that particular challenge has been met. The company’s TIC software, used in 31 countries, can connect data between road agencies, service providers, and vehicles, allowing two-way communication to share current conditions, restrictions, and more.

In the case of a work zone, road agencies can provide precise real-time roadway data which is consumed by the vehicle to ensure safe navigation of the changing road parameters.

In return, the vehicle can provide road agencies with invaluable data. For example, TIC collects pothole data from the vehicle and automatically creates repair projects based on agency protocol. Other data, such as weather, slippery roads, among others, can also be collected by TIC for distribution to drivers through navigations systems, broadcasters, VMS and more.
