5 ITS WC highlights p.5The 2019 Congress theme “Smart Mobility, Empowering Cities” reflects Singapore’s commitment to create the most liveable smart city in support of a higher quality of life and an ever-connected community. With a comprehensive format of plenary and interactive sessions, as well as a dynamic exhibition with technical demonstrations and tours, the 26th ITS World Congress will be an opportunity for participants to network, discuss and share ground-breaking transport technology, and forge mutually beneficial partnerships to further unleash the power of ITS.

Singapore is proud of the extensive progress made in technological advancements for its intelligent transport systems: participants will see and experience a myriad of the latest technology being developed and deployed in Singapore through technology demonstrations and technical tours.

OPENING CEREMONY

In keeping with tradition, the opening ceremony, on Monday, 21 October from 16:00-17:00, will start with the official welcome by the organisers, Land Transport Authority of Singapore and ITS Singapore, along with co-hosts representing Asia-Pacific, Americas and Europe.

Celebrations at the opening ceremony include the presentation of the ‘Hall of Fame – Lifetime Achievement’ award and a thrilling entertainment show that encapsulates the charms of the host city. The opening ceremony will be followed by the Official Exhibition Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and the Welcome Reception at the Exhibition.

Highlights not to be missed at the 2019 ITS World Congress in Singapore include a full programme of technical tours and demonstrations, and, at the heart of the event, an exhibition that will feature more than 300 commercial exhibitors, public administrations and other organisations dedicated to ITS technology and services, spanning more than 5,000m2 of exhibition space.

CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

The ITS World Congress Singapore will feature a comprehensive programme of Plenary sessions, dedicated to key ITS issues; Executive sessions, where high-level industry executives, public officials and academia from around the world will draw from their experiences to share their views on ITS achievements, issues and challenges; as well as Special Interest sessions, Commercial Paper sessions; Technical/Scientific sessions; and Ancillary events.

This packed programme will comprehensively cover critical ITS topics including intelligent and connected autonomous vehicles, multi-modal transport, demand management, policies, standards, security and sustainability, through close to 200 speaking sessions.

New additions to this year’s Congress include an Asia-Pacific Regional Stream (organised to cover various topics that are especially relevant for the Asia-Pacific region) and the C-Level Forum on Mobility Solutions for Smart Cities, a platform for companies to share solutions that can enable cities to improve the well-being of residents living or working there.

Social Events

As mentioned above, following the opening ceremony, delegates can enjoy the Welcome Reception held at the exhibition hall which will provide an excellent opportunity to meet with peers from the industry and network with commercial partners and exhibitors.

However, delegates can also opt to register for a truly immersive dinner experience at the World’s Largest Glass Greenhouse (Guinness World Record 2015) – the Flower Dome at Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. The evening will begin as a sit-down dinner at the Flower Field Hall overlooking the periodically changing Flower Field display on one side, and a spectacular view of the Marina Bay skyline on the other.

The Singapore Experience

Singapore is a bustling cosmopolitan city with a ubiquitous collage of cultures where people of different ethnicities and beliefs coexist. Delegates are encouraged to explore the various cultural precincts and religious landmarks, sample the huge variety of food, and partake in the plethora of colourful festivals happening throughout the year. For the explorers at heart, a world of fascinating cultural and natural heritage sites, first-rate resorts and pristine beaches are within a short flight from Singapore’s Changi Airport.
