There would be no speeding around Singapore’s Formula 1 track by wannabe F1 drivers if IRIS, one of Neology’s newest automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) camera platforms, were on duty.

IRIS – otherwise known by manufacturer Neology as the P500 series – is having its first showing in South East Asia at Singapore this week.

According to Kevin Grattan, business development manager at US-based Neology, IRIS is a plug-and-play platform that’s easy to install and maintain, and is fully PIPS technology.

Applications include law enforcement, open-road tolling, average speed checking, low emission zones, access control and other traffic monitoring activities.

IRIS can cover up to three adjacent lanes within a single camera platform.

The camera captures distances from 4m to 40m and is available as fixed lens or adjustable, with motorised zoom lens options.

It features a 5 megapixel sensor, a powerful quad-core processor, the proven PIPS signature OCR engine, as well as many leading hardware and software technologies integrated in a single intelligent unit.

Other features include enhanced on-the-road performance using integral GPS, optional Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an internal modem. These allow configuration of the camera from street-level, reducing the cost and complexity of installation and commissioning.

IRIS uses H.264 video format to significantly improve compression and help minimise data transmission bandwidth requirements.
