Singapore looks to CREATE new transport solutions

First published at ITS World Congress - October 21, 2019

Singapore-based CREATE (the Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise) is an international research campus and innovation hub that collaborates with research institutes and top global universities to address the city’s transport issues and provide solutions.

Visitors can meet the researchers behind the innovations and see three examples: Tumcrete, Smart-FM and ETH-SEC.

Tumcrete’s Dynamic Autonomous Road Transit system uses fully connected autonomous electric vehicles and is said to be the first complete autonomous public transport concept that caters for Singapore’s public transport system.

Visitors to the booth can learn how this concept is being realised through various interactive demonstrations showing the planning and operation strategies.

Also on the booth is Singapore’s first self-driving wheelchair, developed by Smart’s Future Urban Mobility research group, and which uses computer vision and machine learning to address complex navigation scenarios, from pedestrian to urban road environments.

And demonstrating its newly developed sketch planning tool, ETH-SEC will show how urban designers can plan neighbourhoods served by combinations of future transport modes.

CREATE is also involved in Special Interest Sessions and a Technical Tour.
