TTS partnerships help drivers beat the lights

Traffic Technology Services is at ITS World Congress 2019 to highlight its Personal Signal Assistant IaaS (Information-as-a-Service) product that helps drivers manage their vehicle speeds for smoother trips through multiple sets of traffic lights.

Traffic Technology Services (TTS), a global information service provider for connected vehicle applications, argues that connected vehicles need connected services – and to achieve this it’s setting up public-private partnership between government agencies and private industry.

“While connectivity of infrastructure and connectivity of vehicles drives the story of connected vehicles, there is a greater need to look at content that can actually support automotive-grade connected vehicle applications,” says Thomas Bauer, TTS CEO.

According to Bauer, the company was approached by an OEM to solve this content problem for the industry more than five years ago.

To achieve this, TTS enters into agreements with government agencies to access traffic signal control data, which it then uses as part of Personal Signal Assistant IaaS offering.

In exchange TTS returns data to those agencies with which it works about vehicle operations and traffic signal crossings – an agreement that is at no cost to government agencies.

“The information we provide to government agencies helps them to understand operations at the vehicle level, something that is often difficult to obtain,” says Bauer.

Since 2016, TTS has been supporting the first automotive OEM connected vehicle applications for signalised intersections through Audi’s Connect Traffic Light Information.

Data captured by TTS enables Audi vehicles to notify their drivers of waiting times at red lights, or the ideal travel speed for reaching the next traffic light on green.

TTS is currently implementing this at more than 26,000 signalised intersections in North America, with contracts allowing this number to be expanded to almost 40,000.
