Via’s on-demand transit in Tokyo

First published at ITS World Congress - October 22, 2019

Via is showcasing more than 80 public transportation projects, including its latest deployment in Tokyo, here on the ITS America Pavilion.

Its new BlueVia app brings on-demand, dynamically routed transportation to Itochu’s global headquarters in Japan, enabling thousands of the company’s employees to hail a free, shared shuttle during daily commutes and for off-site meetings. BlueVia operates in cooperation with Nihon Kotsu, one of Japan’s largest taxi companies. Via’s partnership with Itochu marks just one of more than 80 such projects it is developing in more than 20 countries around the world, providing more than 60 million rides to date.

The company has been used by cities and transportation players around the world to help re-engineer public transit from a regulated system of rigid routes and schedules to a fully dynamic, on-demand network.
