Urban air mobility (UAM) has significant potential in the megacities of China, according to flying taxi company Volocopter. “UAM can be huge in China,” says Florian Reuter, CEO of Volocopter. “It has great potential. But we always said if we go to China, we need a good local partner.”

Now Volocopter has just announced a joint venture with Chinese auto giant Zhejiang Geely to launch air taxis in the country. Reuter says he is also interested in developing the service in Japan – although no details have been disclosed. “There are discussions,” he told Daily News.

Volocopter, whose first urban flight in Europe was in Stuttgart last month, will be demonstrating its electric 2X model at ITSWC this week, taking off from Skyports “vertiport” on The Float at Marina Bay.
