Atlas Copco is unveiling two new generators – the QAS 5 and QAS 1450 TwinPower models – which are particularly suitable for use where there are no power connections.

The new QAS 5 models are claimed to offer end users in the construction, events and industrial sectors with a smooth transition towards the phased adoption of EU Stage V engine emission standards in 2019/20. The first five models in the range are new versions of the QAS 80, 100, 120, 150 and 200 generators.

All include optimised Stage IIIA engines, a high capacity fuel tank and integrated Variable Speed Drive (VSD motor to power the cooling fan. These features, along with an integrated Variable Speed Drive (VSD) motor, combine to provide users with an average 5% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the industry average for equivalent models. Larger capacity and fully EU Stage V compliant models are set to be introduced in the coming years.

The QAC 1450 TwinPower, a new addition to the QAC range of containerised generators, is a 610cm (20ft) ISO containerised unit housing two compact 725 kVA generators. It is powered by V8 Scania engines with double bearing alternators. Atlas Copco says that this configuration, with its fast-paralleling system, allows the two generators to work independently or in parallel with each other. It adds that the system is fully EU-compliant.

The QAC 1450 is equipped with a centralised control and monitoring system. This is facilitated by two Qc4003 digital controllers that feature intuitive touchscreens, and a choice of island or PMS (power management system) modes.
