Carlson-CP 65iCarlson’s CP65 paver is designed for the worldwide market

Carlson is introducing a new asphalt paver aimed at the international market in the shape of its wheeled CP65 model.

This features 4×6 drive, electric heating and a tamper bar screed developed for customers in Europe, as well as other global markets favouring this type of asphalt paving. Travis Colwell, marketing and communications coordinator for Carlson Paving products, said Carlson is market leader in the North American market for asphalt screeds. “We leveraged a lot of technology from our other screeds in this.”

Colwell added that it has special bushes inside the extension system that allow the user to take up any wear in the system. Meanwhile the design of the extension system is said to ensure optimum paving accuracy even as the screed ages.

The ECZ 34TV screed offers hydraulic extension from 1.8m-3.4m, with a maximum paving width of 4.5m when equipped with bolt-on extensions. Meanwhile minimum pave width of 750mm can also be achieved.

A vibratory only variant of the screed, the ECZ34 V, is also available for the North American market also, with the more basic version of the paver offered as the CP60 model, with 2×6 drive. Both the ECZ34 TV and ECZ34 V screeds offer maximum paving thicknesses of 200mm.

The machine weighs 9.35tonnes and can deliver up to 250tonnes per hour. Colwell said, “It’s a city paver that can do small to medium sized jobs.”

Despite its compact size, the machine is said to be highly productive and powerful. Colwell said, “With this machine you’re getting a lot of pushing power, even when the screed’s out to 4.5m.”

Power comes from a TCD 2.9 L4 Deutz diesel rated at 55kW, with a Tier 4 Final/Stage V compliant version available for Europe and North America and a Tier 3 variant for lesser regulated markets. Colwell said that the firm has had strong interest from potential customers in Latin America, India, Italy and the Nordic nations.

The control station is designed for good all round visibility over the hopper as well as to the screed edges, while a panel on the deck gives easy access to the hydraulics, filters and engine. Carlson is part of the Astec Group.
