Topcon’s new package for optimising road construction

According to Topcon Positioning, its new Pavelink will help optimise road construction operations. The logistics, planning and scheduling software is said to provide end-to-end visibility for the paving process. Road builders can use the Pavelink Scanner system on a road vehicle travelling at up to 80km/h to record 18,500 data points/second, giving a detailed map of road condition. Two passes are sufficient to gather necessary data on a road section, with the system mounted on a conventional pick-up truck or van.
The data can be uploaded to a milling machine, showing precisely where the road surface needs to be planed. The mill will follow the design accurately, cutting only to the depth required for the repair. The paver then uses the data from the milling machine to control the paving operation. This lowers the quantities of asphalt required for the project as the mill cuts a smoother surface and the system also delivers a better quality road surface.
