TRIMBLE-EarthworksTrimble claims its Earthworks package can boost efficiency for onsite working

Trimble is expanding the capabilities of its Earthworks package. The new Grade Control Platform version 1.9 can offer fully automatic guidance for excavator tiltrotator attachments. In addition the package allows Trimble Universal Total Stations to be used with graders. Using the system allows automatic support for tiltrotators while the package is said to be easy to use and learn, even for operators who have never used a tiltrotator.

The Earthworks semi-automatic boom and bucket control can now be used with tilt automatics on units from Engcon, Rototilt, and Steelwrist. The combined depth and tilt autos allow an operator to easily use complex attachments to stay on grade when using a tiltrotator. Trimble Earthworks controls the boom and bucket of the excavator as well as the tilt angle of the attachment. Meanwhile the operator controls the stick of the excavator and rotation of the tiltrotator.

Meanwhile the added capability for Universal Total Station (UTS) allows contractors using graders to achieve fine working. Martin Wegener, worldwide product implementation manager at Trimble said, “Before the system used dual antennas and now with the UTS it allows millimetre accuracy. You can work where the satellite signal is blocked, under bridges and in tunnels and so on.”

Wegener added, “Any of the machines supported by Trimble Earthworks get this capability also.”

This allows for more accurate grading with fewer passes, so that contractors can work to grade in a shorter time period, minimising costs and maximising productivity.
