Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has appointed Thomas Bitter as its new head of technology. Based at the company’s recently opened headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, he will report to Volvo CE president Melker Jernberg and be a member of the company’s executive management team.

As senior vice-president of technology, Bitter, a long-standing Volvo CE employee, will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of the company’s global technology strategy.

“This is an exciting time to be leading the technology function,” said Bitter. “With electromobility, connectivity and automation key to the future success of our company, I’m energised to help my new colleagues deliver customer satisfaction through leadership in innovation and quality … both today and in the future.”

Commenting on the appointment, Jernberg said: “I am delighted to welcome Thomas to this new role. With his deep product knowledge, cross-functional experience and genuine passion for customers, innovation and sustainability, I know that he will make a strong contribution to advancing Volvo CE’s technological competences at this important time of change in the industry.”

Senior vice-president of Volvo CE’s marketing and product portfolio function since 2015, Bitter, a German national who holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the Lyon Graduate School of Business, has also spent time as vice-president of the company’s global marketing and in several customer-facing roles, based in Asia. Before joining Volvo CE, he was responsible for product strategy at Mack Trucks, based in the US, and product manager at Renault Trucks, based in France.
