Walterscheid- Smart ConnectedSmart and connected powertrains provide data on their operation

Walterscheid is introducing digital monitoring to its powertrain product range. Under the new Smart & Connected strategy, ‘plug and play’ sensors are fitted to the company’s powertrains to provide live data on the operation and status of the products.

The data is collected and stored by the Smart & Connected software, and can be delivered to the operator, remote office, maintenance team or other relevant parties. The Smart & Connected sensors collect data such as angle, torque, rotation speed, slip and temperature. This can be monitored and analysed for irregularities and signs of wear.

The data can help predict service and repair intervals, as well as offer information that can be used to optimise performance and efficiency. Other potential uses are for testing and introducing ‘intelligence’ into the powertrains for automated vehicles or improving the safety of regular vehicles, said the company.
