Caterpillar’s updated ADT offers increased production

Caterpillar claims increased output for its newly upgraded 725 ADT (articulated dump truck) along with multiple improvements for operators.
The truck is powered by a C9.3 diesel delivering 255kW that meets Tier 4 Final/Stage V emissions requirements, which drives through a six-speed transmission allowing a top speed of 58.4km/h. Heaped capacity is 15m3, or 15.6m3 with a tailgate.
A series of automated assistance features are said to reduce operator fatigue, allowing better working throughout a full shift. Advanced automatic traction control means that the operator does not have to engage the limited slip differentials and is said to minimise wheel slip in poor terrain, improving cycle times and increasing tyre life.
The automatic retarder control makes the machine easier to control on steep descents, while an automatic system also prevents the truck from rolling back if it halts on an upward slope. Included too are new systems that make hoisting/dumping safer by engaging the service brake and putting the transmission in neutral.
