Kohler launches the CH440DF dual-fuel petrol or propane engine

Kohler has added to its Command PRO series of engines with the dual-fuel CH440DF engine. The CH440DF can run on either petrol or liquid propane (LP), converting from one to the other at the touch of a switch.
“Construction sites run on either gasoline or LP so contractors need equipment that can run off either fuel,” explains Benjamin Marotz, marketing manager for Kohler Engines. “It also works great for rental because instead of having two pieces of equipment, you just need one. The flexibility gives you a much better return on your investment.
Kohler already has a 10.4kW version of the CH440DDF on the market. Allen Engineering, for instance, is using it in a power trowel for finishing concrete. A 6.4kW version of the dual-fuel engine will be released soon, says Marotz.
The CH440DF is a horizontal-shaft, single-cylinder, four-cycle engine and the comes with several standard Kohler features, aimed to optimise performance: Quad-Clean four-stage cyclonic air cleaner to protect against dirt and debris; Fuel Secure automatic fuel line shutoff for clean starts on jobsite; cast-iron cylinder liners and forged-steel crankcases for durability; and automatic shutdown if the engine oil gets low.
