Liebherr’s wheeled and crawler excavators will feature advanced 2D and 3D machine controls systems in the future, thanks to a new partnership with Leica Geosystems.

The technology will be available as factory-mounted equipment on the Liebherr machines and includes “real-time data for precise, fast and effective processing of construction projects,” says Peter Mayr, managing director of Liebherr USA.

The machine control systems will be available on generation 6 and 8 wheeled and crawler excavators, and they can be retrofitted on a range of other Liebherr machines.

The Leica 2D machine control system, iCON iXE2, is an intuitive, multifunctional assistance technology. Earthmoving operation profiles that can incorporate different heights and slopes can be quickly produced to improve and simplify operation.

The iCON iXE3 is Leica Geosystem’s most advanced 3D machine control solution, says the manufacturer. It enables project data and associated work tasks to be displayed on the machine in real-time. This ensures easy operator access to the advanced technology, which leads to increased productivity and safety, according to Liebherr.

The existing systems will be easy to improve as new technology becomes available, Mayr said. “We hope to continue to expand in 2020 with the equipment and innovations we’re presenting today.”
