Mecalac’s expansion in North America

Mecalac, which produces compact machines for urban applications, is expanding rapidly in North America. In 2016 it had just one dealer, which had seen the manufacturer’s products at Bauma and asked to distribute them. Today it has dealers in 22 states, with 10 more states pending and two in Canada.
“We are developing our existing dealers, adding new dealers, building the Mecalac brand and focussing on the rental market,” says Peter Bigwood, general manager at Groupe Mecalac in North America, who joined the company in January this year from Brok, having previously worked for Atlas Copco for 20 years. Bigwood’s remit is to grow Mecalac’s business in North America.
Through its global network of 250 distributors in 86 countries, Mecalac sells 5,000 machines a year, creating revenues of €270m a year. The manufacturer has factories in France and Germany, Turkey and UK and nine offices in Europe, Turkey and the US.
The 40-year-old, family-run firm, where father Henri Marchetta is chairman and son Alexandre is CEO, invests 5% of its revenues on research and development. “We are all engineers,” said Henri Marchetta. “Innovation is a key word in our company.”
