Volvo CE - Pre-Conexpo 2020 - Volvo P5000B PaversVolvo CE claims productivity and versatility for its two new US asphalt pavers

Volvo CE is launching two new asphalt pavers for the North American market that pave widths from 2.5-5.5m. Productivity, new engine technology and convenient service features are said to ensure a high-quality mat. Built for both heavy commercial and light highway tasks, the P5110B tracked and P5170B wheeled models are said to benefit from easy maintenance and strong performance coupled with good fuel savings.

The 5000B series is powered by the latest Volvo D6 Tier 4 Final engine, which delivers 129kW and features high fuel economy, as well as low noise operation.

The P5110B and P5170B pavers are fitted with large-capacity hoppers, while durable rolled wings help prevent material build-up and cut cleaning time. Once loaded, sonic sensors regulate the flow and delivery of material. The P5170B also has the option of front wheel assist for added traction and gradeability.

Both models come with an UltiMat160 screed, which features extensions that can adjust paving width hydraulically from 2.5-5.5m. The screed’s front-mounted extension supports head-of-material control in the auger channel, further ensuring a quality finish. The screed’s optional bolt-on extensions can be added or removed quickly due to a quick coupling system.

Features include a low deck height for safe communication between crew and operators, a priming function that raises engine speed, runs the conveyors and augers, and provides material to the screed and a screed lock that holds the screed in place until new material is introduced. The machine also has simple controls and a fumes extraction system, as well as automatic track tensioners.
